Nobel Laureate Robert C. Richardson lectures at XJTU
On April 28, at the invitation of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of XJTU, the 1996 Nobel laureate for physics Robert C. Richardson visited XJTU and was named the honorary professor of XJTU. Vice President Lu Tianjian awarded him a school pin and an official appointment certificate. Professor Richardson's lecture, entitled "The Discovery of Superfluid Helium-3 (3He)," was warmly welcomed by the students gathered in Room 101 of the Science Hall. After an introduction by the Director of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges Dr. Liang Li, Professor Reichardson described the process whereby he and two other scientists discovered Superfluid 3He. He also showed a video of a lecture which he gave in 1978, during which he drank liquid nitrogen rashly. Among those attaching the lecture were XJTU Vice President Lu Tianjian and Dean Li Fuli of the School of Science. Following the lecture, Professor Richardson engaged in a lively exchange of ideas with the students in attendance.
