The School of Mechanical Engineering is driven by a shared goal: to cultivate outstanding, talented people for China, through constructing a world-class mechanical discipline; and to promote the level of mechanical industry for China, through scientific research and development.

We inherit the excellent tradition, and follow the social development. Meeting the national needs and following frontier guidance, we develop distinguished research characteristics and advantages in advanced manufacturing, operation & maintenance and safety assurance of major equipment, tribology and bearing rotors, 3D printing and biological manufacturing, micro-nano manufacturing and advanced sensing, intelligent equipment and robots, etc. Relying on profound exploration and continuous innovation, 11 national-level and 17 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research and teaching bases have been established, including the State Key Laboratory of Mechanical Manufacturing System Engineering and the Collaborative Innovation Center for Frontier Manufacturing Equipment.

Over the last decade, the school has led a number of major national projects and won 10 national and more than 20 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards. In the world ranking by subject released by Shanghai Ranking, our discipline of mechanical engineering has been continuously rated as No. 2 worldwide since 2018.

The School has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents, including 21 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as tens of thousands of elites. They make outstanding contributions to the nation. Qian Xuesen, a famous Chinese physicist and world-renowned rocket expert, known as the " Father of Chinese Missiles", is one of our most accomplished alumni. Today, we are proud of a high-level faculty team led by eight academicians, including a wide range of global famous professors and national talents!
