Core Facilities and Experiment Center
The Core Facilities and Experiment Center is a public experimental platform that shares large instruments (facilities) and offers an open experimental environment with the campus and the outside world.
The center is a secondary department of the university and coordinates the construction and management of the public platforms at the campus. Its subordinate bodies include an analytical testing center, a high-performance computing center, a biomedical experimental center, and an experimental animal center.
With the philosophy of offering "scientific, precise, open, sharing, highly efficient, and normative" services, the center promotes high standard technical service, high efficiency equipment operation and high level outcome service, comprehensively supports scientific research, talent cultivation, discipline construction and social services, and implements the country's innovation-driven development strategy and the university's goal to create world-class higher education institution and first-class disciplines.
The analytical testing center provides international first-class technical services integrating analytical testing, comprehensive counseling, skills training, and method innovation for students and teachers on and off campus.
Focusing on the four major functional directions of micro probe analysis, inorganic analysis, organic analysis and physical property analysis, it provides material structure-activity analysis services based on coupling technique, covering material microstructure and morphology, inorganic/organic material composition and structure and material properties, and other factors.
About 80 sets of large equipment are planned at a cost of 250 million yuan($38.4 million). The center obtained an accreditation of the China Inspection Body and Laboratory Mandatory Approval (CMA) in 2020.
The high-performance computing center is constructed in accordance with international level A standards for machine rooms, and is built and operated by both the campus and outside resources.
It provides petaflop and petabyte computing, storage, and management services to researchers, innovators and start-ups on and off the campus. A total of 500 modular cabinets are planned, with exceptional advanced computational power.
The biomedical experimental center provides one-stop integrated service of "micromolecule-macromolecule-cells" for both internal and external scientific research workers and business users who conduct biological basic research and medical clinical research.
It has set up a number of large equipment testing areas including centers for biological mass spectrometry, bioimaging, flow cytometry, physiological testing, and bioinformatic analysis, as well as several technology achievement transformation platforms including precision medicine transformation, stem cell and tissue engineering transformation, drug research and diagnostics, and reagent medial testing. About 52 sets of large equipment are planned, to be worth 105 million yuan.
The experimental animal center, as a uniform management and service platform for the entry and exit of experimental animals of the university, focuses on experimental animals and core facilities and services for experiments. It has built a fully closed experimental environment and germplasm resources center.
In addition, it provides centralized feeding and recycling of experimental animals for users in and outside the campus, and an entire process for tracking and control of experimental animals. It also plans to become an industry authority accredited by the CMA, the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment(CNAS), and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care(AAALAC). About 20,000 cages are planned for experimental animals, and the targeted annual supply of standardized rats is 200,000.
