Stanford University and Elsevier, a leading international academic publisher, jointly released the 2025 list of World's Top 2% Scientists on Sept 19.

The list is divided into two categories—"career-long impact" and "single-year impact". Based on the Scopus database, the list evaluates nearly 7 million scientists worldwide based on parameters such as scientific output, H-index, citations of achievements, and author ranking in achievements, and selects the top 2% of scientists.

According to the 2025 list, a total of 12,374 scholars from China were included in the "career-long impact" ranking, and 31,685 scholars were included in the "2025 single-year impact" ranking. More than 600 universities in Chinese mainland had scholars selected, an increase compared to 2024.

In the 2025 "career-long impact" ranking, which measures scholars' long-term contributions, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) saw more entries than in the previous year, with a total of 173 people, ranking 9th among universities in the Chinese mainland.

In the 2025 "single-year impact" ranking, which reflects the academic activity of the previous year, XJTU had a total of 470 people selected, ranking 8th among universities in Chinese mainland, with a stable ranking.

Among them, Professors Ma En, Xu Feng, Cheng Hai, and Lei Yaguo have ranked in the top 50 globally in both rankings for three consecutive years. The number of top scientists accounts for 12 percent of the total number of full-time teachers in the university, demonstrating sustained strong performance in scientific research output.

This year, the selected scholars of XJTU are engaged in 29 first-level disciplines in seven disciplinary categories. The top three disciplines are power engineering and engineering thermophysics (65 people), mechanical engineering (43 people), and materials science and engineering (37 people), concentrated in key engineering fields such as machinery, electrical engineering, energy, and materials.
