The IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society (IEEE SMC) held its 2025 Special Events and Awards Ceremony on Oct 7.

The IEEE SMC Xi'an Section Joint Chapter (IEEE SMCS & IEEE CSS), chaired by Professor Shen Chao of the Faculty of Electronic and Information Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), was awarded the 2025 IEEE Outstanding SMC Chapter Award.

In 2022, under the leadership of Professor Shen, the joint chapter was approved for establishment. XJTU's Faculty of Electronic and Information Engineering has relied on this platform to gather high-quality resources at home and abroad to help theoretical innovation, technological breakthroughs, and achievement transformation in fields such as systems engineering, network security, and artificial intelligence.

By leveraging this platform, the faculty has been able to deepen international exchanges and cooperation, as well as promote the international integration of discipline construction and scientific research innovation through the holding of high-level academic lectures and other methods.

The IEEE SMC was established in 1970 with the approval of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and is one of the longest-established and most-membered IEEE societies.

It focuses on artificial intelligence, systems science and engineering, autonomous unmanned systems, cyberspace security applications, and other fields. The Outstanding Chapter Award is selected annually worldwide, with no more than three chapters receiving this honor.
