One hundred and thirty years of brilliance, and seventy years of renewal. Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) will celebrate its 130th founding anniversary and the 70th anniversary of Westward Academic Relocation on April 8, 2026.

Since the announcement of our 130th-anniversary celebrations, alumni worldwide, friends from every sector of society, and all members of the University community have responded with extraordinary enthusiasm and unwavering support for the preparatory undertaking. We record our profound gratitude and pay tribute to their invaluable contribution.

Following an initial call for submissions and a rigorous selection process, the anniversary slogan and logo have been formally adopted. The official anniversary WeChat Mini Program has been launched, and all other preparatory initiatives are progressing on schedule. The particulars are set forth below.

I. Anniversary slogan

The anniversary slogan is: One hundred and thirty years of brilliance, seventy years of daily renewal ("百卅辉光，七秩日新" ).

"One hundred and thirty years" (百卅) and "seventy years" (七秩) begin the slogan by referencing the two important milestones of XJTU. The phrase "brilliance and daily renewal" is derived from the I Ching (Book of Changes), meaning "vigorous and truthful, brilliant and daily renewal".

"Brilliance" celebrates XJTU's 130-year heritage of achievement; "daily renewal" affirms its resolve to remain at the forefront of change. The pairing encapsulates the University's vision: to keep step with the times, meet China's strategic needs, and integrate education, research, and talent development in pursuit of world-class excellence with Chinese characteristics.

The character "光" (pronounced "guang", meaning light or brilliance) in the slogan, based on XJTU's history and functional positioning, embodies meaning across six different levels: "the light of spirit and torch of the Westward Academic Relocation", "the light of truth with resolution and fidelity", "the light of pioneering exploration across various fields", "the light of diligent and earnest endeavor", "the light of innovation through cross-discipline education" and "the light of harmony shining around the world". Together these illustrate XJTU's achievements over the past 130 years in education, scientific research, and social service. More specifically, for the past 70 years since the Westward Academic Relocation, XJTU has rooted itself in West China, turned town-and-gown synergies into innovation engines, and helped to power the new Western Development Strategy. This echoes XJTU's grand vision of "To be the light of the world", wherein "light" is not merely metaphor, but measurable impact.

II. Anniversary logo

The anniversary logo visually fuses the numbers "130" and "70", layering two key milestones — 130 years of legacy and 70 years since the Westward Academic Relocation — into a single emblem that signals both continuity and convergence.

The "0" in the logo stands simultaneously for a beginning and for infinity — a seamless circle that welcomes every voice. Light is folded into the ring as a vessel, letting annual-growth lines, scroll silhouettes and circuitry patterns coexist in one continuous surface. Animated, the emblem becomes a living system: it expands, contracts and rewinds itself, turning Xi'an Jiaotong University's ethos of openness and constant renewal into something you can actually watch unfold.

Primary palette: Patriot Red — a deep, vibrant red that echoes the university's long-standing spirit of service to the nation. Plane Tree Gold — drawn from the autumn leaves of Xi'an Jiaotong University's iconic Plane Tree Avenues. It conveys both the brilliance of achievement and the promise of the future. Together, the red-and-gold pairing captures XJTU's distinctive identity. When context demands, the logo may also be reproduced in XJTU's official accent colors—most notably Technology Blue, taken from XJTU emblem.
