On March 14, Xi'an Jiaotong University celebrated its 130th anniversary with a donation ceremony at its Xingqing Campus in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, amassing over 210 million yuan ($30.51 million) in contributions.

Attendees included President Zhang Liqun, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Vice President Shan Zhiwei. Wang Huan, deputy secretary of the University Party Committee, presided over the event.

Shan Zhiwei highlighted the university's long-standing tradition of "gratitude for the source of water and assistance in education," emphasizing the role of social donations in bridging the campus and society. He expressed a desire to collaborate with alumni and societal sectors to contribute to national development.

Notably, Zhou Hongyi, founder of 360 Group and an alumnus, donated 100 million yuan. Although unable to attend, Zhou sent a video message expressing gratitude and encouraging students to engage in network security to protect national digital interests.

Other alumni donated company equities and equipment worth millions. Faculty and staff also contributed significantly, with donations exceeding 160 million yuan.

In his closing remarks, Zhang Liqun thanked all donors, highlighting the university's social influence and commitment to talent cultivation and innovation. He reflected on the university's historical impact since relocating to Xi'an in 1956 and looks forward to building a world-class institution with Chinese characteristics.
