The 51st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva was held from March 11 to 15 in Geneva, Switzerland. The "Plasma Light Skin Cosmetic Instrument Suit" project by Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) stood out from more than 1,000 invention projects from 35 countries and regions around the world, winning the highest honor of the exhibition – the Gold Medal with the Congratulations of the Jury.

Founded in 1973, the exhibition is hosted by authoritative organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Swiss Federal Government. It is one of the world's oldest, largest, and most influential exhibitions for inventions and innovations.

Winning this prestigious award is a testament to the research innovation and practical application capabilities of the XJTU team. Low-temperature plasma technology is now widely used in cosmetology and dermatological treatment. However, existing technologies apply plasma directly to human tissue, which carries the risk of high-voltage electric shock. Its tip discharge characteristics and strong reactivity result in a small treatment area and short effective duration, limiting its scope of application and therapeutic effectiveness.

The team from XJTU targeted these pain points and broke through the limitations of current technologies, ultimately pioneering plasma-activated hydrogel technology. The hydrogel stores active particles generated by plasma, which are then applied to the affected area to achieve multiple effects such as acne treatment, skin repair, and anti-inflammatory benefits.

This technology ensures plasma no longer comes into direct contact with human tissue. Meanwhile, the active particles preserved in the hydrogel can perform therapeutic functions over a large area and for a long duration.

Beauty products based on plasma-activated hydrogel technology are now available on the market, while treatments for various diseases such as trauma, dermatitis, and tumors have entered the clinical trial stage.
