Xi'an Jiaotong University hosts the 9th International Cultural Festival

On April 25, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) inaugurated its 9th International Cultural Festival at the Xingqing Campus. The event, themed "Glorious 130 Years, Enduring Bonds Along the Silk Road," was graced by Shan Zhiwei, vice president of XJTU, Wang Shenggang, former deputy secretary-general of the China Scholarship Council, and Gao Jinxiao, deputy director-general of the Shaanxi Provincial Foreign Affairs Office. Representatives from universities, enterprises, and social institutions, along with thousands of Chinese and international teachers and students from over 130 countries, gathered to celebrate this cross-cultural event.

The ceremony commenced with a vibrant Dragon Dance for a Prosperous Age. Gao Jinxiao emphasized the festival's role in fostering cultural connections and international exchanges, urging students to serve as cultural ambassadors. Shan Zhiwei noted that 2026 marks XJTU's 130th anniversary and the 70th anniversary of its westward relocation, highlighting the university's commitment to global collaboration and the Silk Road's enduring friendship.

Distinguished guests launched the ceremony by activating the starting axis, symbolizing cultural integration. On stage, international students presented captivating performances, including dances from Thailand, Uzbekistan, Russia, and India. The Chinese ballad "So Many People in This World" resonated with the audience, while the dance "Huo Yuanjia" elegantly blended tradition with modernity. The "Glimpse of the World" costume show featured students from 30 countries, showcasing ethnic attire.

Off stage, 44 national cultural booths offered a taste of global diversity, with Kazakh embroidery, Thai treats, Mexican handicrafts, Russian dances, and more. Visitors enjoyed an immersive cultural tour, exploring rich traditions and flavors from around the world.
