XJTU makes progress in low-dimension transition metal dichalcogenides in the form of nanoribbons

Recently, XJTU associate professor Deng Junkai from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, professor Yang Sen from the School of Science, collaborated with associate professor Liu Zhe of the University of Melbourne in Australia, and discovered sensitive dependence of magnetic properties of 1T’-MoS2 NRs, namely, periodic variation of magnetic moments, on NR width (even or odd numberof MoS2units). Researchers named this effect a "magic number”of ferromagnetic nanoribbons. Based on this effect, they designed a novelspintronic prototype by controlling the width of nanoribbon to alternate edge ferromagnetism steadily. This prototypical model suggests remarkable potential in the development of super-high density integrated magnetic devices for information storage and applications of 2D TMDs.

The research result was published in Journal of the American Chemical Society(IF=14.357), an international top journal, under the title Ferromagnetism of 1T’-MoS2 Nanoribbons stabilized by edge reconstruction and its periodic variation on nanoribbons width. It is the fifth collaborative paper jointly published by associate professor Deng Junkai and associate professor Liu Zhe in the field of 2D intelligent material in the past three years.
