Zhao's team develops a new technique for removing blood clots.

A research team led by Ruike Renee Zhao, an alumna of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), recently published a groundbreaking paper titled Milli-spinner thrombectomy in the world-leading academic journal Nature.

The study developed an innovative technique for blood clot removal – Milli-spinner thrombectomy – which is ‌over twice as effective as existing methods‌. This breakthrough offers a rapid, simple, and thorough solution for eliminating clots, promising to improve treatment success rates‌ for strokes, myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolisms, and other thrombosis-related conditions.

Zhao studied Mechanical Engineering and Automation at XJTU from 2008 to 2012, earning her bachelor's degree in engineering. She currently serves as an ‌assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University‌.
