Recently, research teams led by XJTU Professor Meng Lingjie and CAE member Tang Benzhong (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) reviewed the latest research progress of luminescent materials in stimulated emission depletion (STED) nanoscopy. The review includes working machenisms of STED nanoscopy, material requirements in STED nanoscopy, luminescent materials for STED super-resolution imaging, application prospects of luminescent materials in subcellular imaging, dynamic tracking, and the combination of several techniques. The development tendency and challenges of luminescent, fluorescent materials in STED imaging were also discussed. This review analyzed STED technology and the structure-function relationship of materials and relevant applications, anticipating that guidelines to select and design appropriate materials for STED super-resolution imaging will be provided.

The research results have been published in Chemical Society Reviews titled Recent Advances in Luminescent Materials for Super-resolution Imaging Via Stimulated Emission Depletion Nanoscopy. The corresponding authors include Associate Professor Dang Dongfeng and Professor Meng Lingjie of the XJTU School of Chemical Engineering and Technology and CAE member Tang Benzhong from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Relevant works have also received support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Elemental Research Program of Natural Science of Shaanxi Province, the key laboratory project of the Science and Technology Bureau of Xi'an Municipal Government, and the Instrumental Analysis Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University.
