Recently, joint research on the mechanism of neural regulation conducted by Professor Chang Chao's team of Xi'an Jiaotong University, the Shu Yousheng research group of Fudan University, the Song Bo research group of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, the Wen Quan research group of the University of Science And Technology of China and the Mao Lanqun research group of the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences led to a significant achievement. The research found that Midinfrared Stimulation, MIRS, can be used as a novel neuromodulation strategy to adjust spiking activities potential wave formation and sensori-motor behavior. The adjustment is athermal, reversible and long distance.

The research achievement was published in PNAS on March 1, 2021, as "Nonthermal and reversible control of neuronal signaling and behavior by midinfrared stimulation". Qiao Zhi, doctoral student of XJTU, is the co-first author of the paper. Professor Chang Chao is the co-corresponding author of the paper.

The research was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, an innovation special zone project and the National Key R&D Program of China.
