XJTU students honored at national science contest
Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) wins the 'Outstanding Organization Award' in the 14th National University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction held at Shandong University in Ji'nan, capital of East China's Shandong province from Aug 27 to 28.
Guided by the Energy Power Professional Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education(MOE), the 14th National University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction was held in Shandong University in Ji'nan, capital of East China's Shandong province from Aug 27 to 28.
The teams of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) won one special prize, seven first prizes, one special prize for innovation, one silver prize, and the "Outstanding Organization Award", their best performance in the past 10 years.
For the first time, the contest launched the selection of 100 outstanding undergraduate graduation theses (designs) for students majoring in energy power among domestic universities. A total of eight papers from XJTU were selected, the highest number among all universities across the country.
As an important practice for implementing the National Action Plan for Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction, the contest themed "energy saving, emission reduction, green energy" attracted 5,201 entries from 514 universities in 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China, creating a new historical high in the number of participating students and universities and the number of entries since its establishment in 2008.
In this contest, 10 special prizes, 110 first prizes, 124 second prizes, and 1,035 third prizes were awarded. In addition, three special prizes for energy-saving innovation, six silver awards, and seven bronze awards were also given.
At the closing ceremony, Professor He Yaling, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Energy Power Professional Teaching Steering Committee of the MOE, granted the "Outstanding Contribution Award" to Shandong University. The contest organizer next time will be Tianjin University.
The XJTU's School of Energy and Power Engineering organizes in-school selection.
The contest closely integrates major national needs and focuses on national energy and environmental policies.
Under the direct leadership of the Energy Power Professional Teaching Steering Committee of the MOE and the active cooperation of universities and colleges, it cultivates the innovative ability and collaborative spirit of college students, identifies outstanding successors in the field of energy and environment, and helps to achieve carbon emission peaking and carbon neutrality targets.
