Yu Peisheng and Wu Siqi, students of Xi'an Jiaotong University, stood out from 101 competitors in the S.-T. Yau College Student Mathematics Contest, coming away with gold and bronze medals in finals.

The two students are outstanding representatives of the university's educational philosophy, a new talent training model integrating cross-discipline methods to cultivate world-class achievers in science.

The contest was initiated in 2010 by Professor Shing-Tung Yau, an honorable Chinese-American mathematician for the purpose of encouraging students to make comprehensive progress in basic knowledge, improve their ability and academic accomplishment in mathematics, and promote the development of mathematics education in Chinese universities.

Since its inauguration, the contest has attracted 12,000 college students from more than 600 universities in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
