XJTU students excel in US mathematical modeling
At the 2023 Mathematical Contest in Modeling/Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM), students from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) once again excelled by winning the top award of Outstanding Winner for the sixth consecutive year.
Along with this prestigious honor, XJTU also had 15 Finalists, 19 Meritorious Winners, and 54 Honorable Mention awards.
This year's contest covered a wide range of fields, such as economics, management, the environment, resources, ecology, medicine, and safety. Each team of three undergraduate students had to complete all the work, from model building and solution to verification and paper writing, for a specified problem within a four-day period.
The event attracted students from many well-known universities, including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Columbia University, and the University of California, who displayed their impressive skills.
The MCM/ICM, sponsored by the Consortium for Mathematics, is the most influential mathematical modeling competition in the world. This year, the event attracted 20,858 teams from 21 countries and regions.
