XJTU alumnus selected as member of NAE
Professor Chen Zhangxing.
On Feb 6, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) of the United States announced the list of 114 newly-elected members and 21 foreign members, including Professor Chen Zhangxing, an alumnus of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU).
Professor Chen graduated from XJTU with a master's degree in computational mathematics in 1985. His main research areas are reservoir engineering and numerical simulation. He is a renowned scientist in the fields of international computational mathematics, unconventional oil and gas, and petroleum engineering.
Chen has received numerous honors and awards including the Friendship Award from the Chinese government, the highest technology award in Canada, the Canadian Fields Industrial Mathematics Prize and the U.S. Ford President's Award.
Being elected as a member of the NAE is yet another prestigious title for Professor Chen, following his previous election as a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the construction of modern reservoir numerical simulation theory.
The NAE, one of the two national academies in the United States, was established in 1964 to provide leadership services in engineering science and technology throughout the United States. Membership in the NAE, as one of the highest professional honors that can be bestowed upon individuals in the engineering science and technology community, is awarded to those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education.
