'Bird's Nest' to Olympic City: Dream journey of Uzbek youth

The Uzbekistan Olympic City project in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, is under rapid construction by China CAMC Engineering Co, a subsidiary of China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach). On the construction site, a young man from Uzbekistan, fluent in Chinese, is often seen accompanying Chinese employees for site inspections, translating for local government officials during visits, or leading local fire departments and other agencies on tours. He is Nazarov Dilshodjon, an alumnus of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), known in Chinese as Wang Yinze.
His story with China began in 2015. While accompanying his parents on a business trip, he was left awestruck as he stood in front of the National Stadium "Bird's Nest" in Beijing and dreamed that one day, he could be part of such a major project in his country. This marked the beginning of his journey.
Inspired by the trip, Wang began studying Chinese at the Confucius Institute in Tashkent upon returning to Uzbekistan. From 2015 to 2018, he worked hard to master the language, eventually becoming fluent enough to communicate effortlessly with Chinese teachers. In 2019, he passed the entrance exam for XJTU, where he excelled academically, graduating in July 2023.
After graduating, he immediately started looking for jobs related to China. When he saw a job opening for the Uzbekistan Olympic City project, he had a strong feeling that this was the opportunity he had been waiting for. Without hesitation, he submitted his carefully prepared resume, determined to secure the position.
He is now a translator for the safety and procurement departments and handles market development. "From its inception in 2022 to the planned completion by the end of 2024, building such a large-scale, world-class sports facility in just two years is a first for Uzbekistan, and for me personally, it's the realization of my childhood dream. I am honored to be part of this project, applying the knowledge I gained in China and at XJTU to a project I’ve always dreamed of. This is very important to me," Wang said admiringly as he watched the stadiums taking shape.
Uzbekistan Olympic City is a large 100-hectare sports complex featuring five main sports venues and 15 outdoor sports fields. It will become the largest sports complex in Central Asia, serving for both the 4th Asian Youth Games and the 5th Asian Youth Para Games in 2025.
Standing at the construction site, Wang seemed to see his younger self outside the "Bird's Nest", saying, "I feel like I've finally reached the place I dreamed of nine years ago."
