Dr Mikhail Chudakov visits XJTU.

Dr Mikhail Chudakov, deputy director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), visited Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) on Aug 18, accompanied by Huang Wei, director of the IAEA Division of Planning, Information and Knowledge Management; Jiang Zheren, representative of the China Atomic Energy Authority; and Bao Shufei from the European Representative Office of the China National Nuclear Corporation. This marks the first visit of a senior IAEA leader to XJTU.

Wang Huan, deputy secretary of the CPC XJTU committee, met with the delegation and held discussions on further strengthening future cooperation. She warmly welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of XJTU's history, disciplinary strengths, talent cultivation, international cooperation and the development of the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour.

She emphasized that the IAEA is a key partner of XJTU and expressed gratitude for the IAEA's support in providing learning and practice opportunities for XJTU students in international organizations.

She hoped that both parties will expand cooperation and work together to enhance the international competitiveness of talent and promote high-level scientific research, thereby continuously elevating the international reputation and influence of XJTU's disciplines.

Dr Chudakov gave high praise to XJTU's achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research and international cooperation in the field of nuclear science and technology. He introduced the IAEA's efforts to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy globally and encouraged Chinese students to actively apply for IAEA's collaborative exchange and educational training programs.

He emphasized that these programs not only teach people about nuclear energy but also focus on developing nuclear knowledge management capabilities. He also expressed hope for joint efforts to broaden and deepen cooperation in personnel exchange, scientific research and international academic conferences.

Following the meeting, Dr Chudakov delivered a keynote speech titled "IAEA Assistance for a Sustainable Energy Future" and engaged in an interactive discussion with students, encouraging them to study diligently and contribute to the development of nuclear science and technology and global sustainable development. During the visit, Dr Chudakov and his delegation also toured the nuclear science and technology laboratories at XJTU.
