The national finals of the 2024 China International College Students' Innovation Competition were held in Shanghai from Oct 12 to 15. Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) achieved remarkable success, winning 13 gold awards (the gold award rate is just one in 10,000), tying for second place among universities nationwide, and setting a new record for the university. This brings XJTU's total to 48 golds over the competition's ten-year history, more than any other institution in China.
The competition was jointly organized by China's Ministry of Education, 11 other government bodies, and the Shanghai Municipal Government. It was hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Minhang district Government.
Since its official launch in April 2024, the event has attracted 5.14 million project entries and 20.84 million students from 5,406 universities in 153 countries and regions. Of these, 39,380 international students entered, with 12,063 projects representing 1,993 schools. These included 152 top-notched universities worldwide, such as Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, MIT, and Cambridge.
The competition has become a major international innovation event for youths. It fosters global engagement, cross-cultural exchange, and mutual support among people of all backgrounds, and promotes a shared commitment to world peace and development. A total of 1,410 outstanding projects advanced to the finals.
XJTU sent nine projects to the national finals in the main category, three in the youth category, and four in the industry category. Of these, XJTU won a record seven gold awards in the main category, two golds in the youth category, and a record four golds in the industry category, along with three silvers and one bronze.
All four international projects recommended by XJTU received gold awards, marking another record performance.
XJTU placed great emphasis on this competition, establishing a dedicated working group following its launch in April. Through collaborative efforts across departments, over 750 innovation and entrepreneurship projects were submitted, and more than 5,000 participants, including current students and alumni, mobilized from all colleges.
