Building 7 wins the award for its excellent low-carbon design.

Building 7 of the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour at Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) won the inaugural AIUE-Innovative Design Award 2024 at the recently held 21st International Conference of the Asian Institute of Urban Environment (AIUE) in Tokyo, Japan. The building was designed independently by faculty and students from XJTU’s School of Human Settlements and Civil Engineering.

Focusing on the conference theme of "Green Transformation of Cities: Nurturing Sustainable Urban Futures", Building 7 stood out for its green design concept, low-carbon technologies, and interdisciplinary practices, becoming one of only two projects to win the award.

This low-carbon building integrates a dual-layer solar photovoltaic-electrothermal conversion structure with internal flow control solutions. It cleverly combines passive energy-saving strategies with multi-energy utilization technologies to collaboratively transform and utilize natural energy.

As an experimental building, it will continue to advance technological innovation and professional practice by hosting over 20 green and low-carbon technology experiments that merge active and passive approaches.

This award recognizes the School of Human Settlements and Civil Engineering's achievements in green building technology innovation and interdisciplinary research. XJTU will continue to drive progress in green building technologies.

XJTU also secured the hosting rights for the 22nd international conference of AIUE in 2025 following a successful bid presentation.
