The launch ceremony for the new English journal Smart Power & Energy Security, co-founded by Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Company, was held on Nov 16 in Zhejiang province.

Over 300 participants attended the event, including editorial board representatives from Nanyang Technological University and Zhejiang University, experts and professors from energy regulatory bodies, grid companies, universities, and research institutes, and industry representatives from the energy and power sectors.

Bie Zhaohong, executive vice-president of XJTU, noted that the global energy consumption structure is undergoing profound adjustments. The share of clean energy in primary electricity sources is increasing significantly, and the essential characteristics of power systems are evolving rapidly. Against this backdrop, Smart Power & Energy Security integrates the combined strengths of XJTU and State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power, rooted in China's energy revolution practices, to provide a high-level academic exchange platform for the global energy transition.

Professor Wen Fushuan, a deputy editor-in-chief of the journal and a member of Zhejiang University's College of Electrical Engineering, delivered a congratulatory speech on behalf of the editorial board.

He highlighted that smart power and energy security are hot topics in the energy and power sector and core global sustainable development agenda issues. The journal's launch is timely, as it aims to gather outstanding academic achievements worldwide, share the latest technological developments, explore industry trends, and foster deeper collaboration between academia and industry. The journal seeks to offer innovative solutions for global energy transition, low-carbon economy, and the sustainable development of power systems.

Under Bie's leadership and that of the academic editorial team, the journal has assembled an editorial board of 35 internationally renowned scholars from nine countries and regions.

The inaugural issue focuses on power and energy system security and low-carbon transition. It features five papers by leading scholars in the field, including two review articles and three original research articles. All papers are open-access and can be downloaded and read on the ScienceDirect website.
