XJTU students participate in 2025 MCM/ICM competition
XJTU students work hard for MCM/ICM.
The 2025 Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) was held online from Jan 24 to 28. Students from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) submitted their papers to the organizers, marking the completion of their first major international competition this year.
Organized by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP), MCM/ICM is one of the most influential mathematical modeling competitions worldwide and one of the largest academic competitions at XJTU regarding student participation and interdisciplinary involvement.
XJTU attached great importance to this year's competition. Since its launch in October 2024, the university mobilized widespread participation, resulting in a record-breaking 779 teams and 2,325 students competing.
To help students achieve outstanding results, the XJTU Center for Experiential Learning invited experts in mathematical modeling research and education from inside and outside the university to deliver a Mathematical Modeling Methods and Applications lecture series that started in November.
These sessions expanded students' knowledge, equipped them with essential mathematical tools and techniques, and enhanced their modeling skills. In addition to lectures, instructors such as Chen Lei, Zu Jian, Cao Xiangyong, and Chen Long provided intense training during holidays and weekends, focusing on problem analysis, model formulation, computation, and result discussion.
XJTU also organized a school-level competition to simulate real contest scenarios, helping students refine time management, task distribution, stress handling, and teamwork skills.
On Jan 24, Hong Jun, vice-president of XJTU, and Chen Libin, deputy director of the Center for Experiential Learning, visited the competition site to encourage and support participating students.
