XJTU students complete winter academic visit to Oxford

From Jan 12 to 25, 10 outstanding undergraduates from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU)'s School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering, School of Energy and Power Engineering, and the Faculty of Electronic and Information Engineering completed the Engineering Winter Camp at Worcester College, University of Oxford. They were the first recipients of the "Give Me Five" Undergraduate Overseas Exchange Fund.

The winter camp featured a thoughtfully designed curriculum that integrated fundamental engineering knowledge with cutting-edge technologies, offering students an enriching academic experience.

Professor Emilio Martinez-Paneda from Oxford's Department of Engineering, renowned for his rich academic expertise and extensive teaching experience, provided a clear and insightful introduction to materials science.

Dr Huanming Chen from Oxford's Department of Engineering led students on a field study of bridge structures, encouraging them to apply their knowledge to propose scientific, economical, and feasible bridge design solutions, which they then presented. The program's "theory + practice" teaching model reinforced their classroom learning.

At the University of Cambridge, students visited the Cavendish Laboratory, where they explored Cambridge's outstanding achievements in scientific research, gaining a deeper appreciation for academic research and the spirit of scientific innovation.

Attending a performance of Cinderella at an Oxford theatre provided students with a chance to unwind after intensive studies while immersing themselves in British theatrical culture.

On Jan 25, during the closing ceremony, students received their certificates of completion from Worcester College, University of Oxford, marking the successful conclusion of this enriching academic journey.
