XJTU wins three 2025 iF Design Awards
Out of 10,651 global entries, three Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) designs won the 2025 iF Design Award – setting a new record for the university.
The three winning entries – Allcare Smart Infusion Monitoring System, 3D-Printed Custom Titanium Glasses, and MAGIC FIT 020 Modular Lacquered Glasses – were designed by an industry-education integration team led by Associate Professor Li Hongwei from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Jiang Weile from the School of Humanities, and Professor Huang Ke from the School of Mechanical Engineering.
The team also included students from the XJTU-POLIMI Joint School of Design and Innovation and the School of Mechanical Engineering, the XJTU Institute of Intelligent Optometry Equipment, Shaanxi All Care Medical Technology Co and Shaanxi Longtou Lacquer Culture Industry Co, showcasing XJTU's strength in interdisciplinary and collaborative innovation.
The iF Design Award, founded in 1953 by iF Industrie Forum Design, Germany’s oldest industrial design institution, is a globally recognized benchmark in contemporary industrial design alongside the Red Dot Award and the IDEA Award.
Allcare Smart Infusion Monitoring System.
Allcare is an integrated IoT-based hardware and software solution designed to improve infusion safety and nursing efficiency in hospitals. Based on MEMS sensing technology, it enables real-time monitoring, precise flow rate control, automatic alarms, remote locking, and multi-terminal data synchronization. Supporting multi-mode communication, it is applicable in inpatient, outpatient, and community healthcare scenarios.
Nurses can monitor multiple beds in real-time via a management terminal, reducing the need for manual rounds. Patients and their families can receive real-time infusion updates via a user app, easing caregiver anxiety.
Allcare emphasizes safety, efficiency, and human-centered care, easing medical staff workload, reducing disputes, and promoting a more humane and transparent smart healthcare ecosystem.
3D-Printed Custom Titanium Glasses.
The X-Round glasses are modular, custom 3D-printed titanium frames without screws. Inspired by traditional Chinese mortise-and-tenon joints, the design replaces conventional welded connections with an innovative dual-line spiral interlock. The streamlined frame connects to the temples via a screwless hinge, offering easy disassembly and part replacement, and greatly extending product lifespan. The modular design also boosts production efficiency and product quality.
MAGIC FIT 020 Modular Lacquered Glasses.
MAGIC FIT 020 combines 3D-printed Ti64 alloy with Ni-Ti shape-memory material. Its modular design allows users to interchange parts like the frame and bridge to adapt to various scenarios.
The screwless hinge minimizes wear and enhances durability. The nose pads integrate traditional lacquer craftsmanship (a Chinese intangible cultural heritage), delivering environmental friendliness and aesthetic appeal.
A compact carrying case is included for portability. The design blends modern and traditional manufacturing with a focus on customization, structural stability, and durability – ideal for daily use and special occasions.
