A delegation led by Samgat Yermekbayev, first vice president of Satbayev University in Kazakhstan, visited Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) on April 10. The two sides deepened their strategic collaboration and formally signed a journal cooperation agreement.

They discussed expanding cooperation in talent development, joint research, and industry-education integration, marking a new phase of their partnership under the Belt and Road Initiative framework.

XJTU Vice-president Shan Zhiwei emphasized that, as a strategic collaboration between top engineering universities in China and Kazakhstan, both sides should give full play to Satbayev University's disciplinary strengths and XJTU's innovation experience in industry-education integration.

Shan proposed three key initiatives: implementing reciprocal faculty and student exchanges, advancing joint engineering research, and co-establishing a Central Asia-China academic journal platform.

Yermekbayev expressed Satbayev University's strong commitment to collaborating with XJTU and highlighted expectations for deeper cooperation in faculty-student exchanges, digital education, and scientific research. He urged accelerated implementation of short- and long-term academic exchanges in mechanical engineering to drive progress through complementary strengths.

During the visit, the delegation toured the State Key Laboratory for Manufacturing System Engineering and held discussions with XJTU's School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, School of Aerospace Engineering, and School of International Education. Multiple collaborative intentions were reached, including faculty-student exchanges and joint research projects.

Satbayev University, a leading national research university in Kazakhstan (ranked 405th in the 2024 QS World University Rankings), traces its origins to the Kazakh National Technical Research University founded in 1934.

Renowned as the "Cradle of Kazakh Engineers", it holds dominant positions in six disciplines, including mechanical engineering and energy-chemical engineering, all of which rank first in Kazakhstan's national assessments.
