Russian XJTU student bridges Silk Road legacies through exchanges
Russian student Dasha (L1), dressed in hanfu, experiences guqin in Xi'an.
As the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, Xi'an serves as a vital gateway for Russian youth to experience Chinese civilization. When Dasha from Russia journeyed 5,000 kilometers to study in Xi'an, this ancient capital became her "second hometown".
In 2022, driven by a curiosity and admiration for China, Dasha chose to study at Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU). She selected Xi'an because she viewed it as "a profoundly ancient city" brimming with cultural charm.
During her time in Xi'an, she participated in cultural exchange activities, mastered the use of chopsticks, and became fluent in the Chinese language. Her dedication earned her the title of "Global Communication Ambassador" for XJTU, tasked with sharing the university's stories worldwide.
Beyond academics, Dasha embraced her role as a "cultural explorer": dressing in Hanfu, playing the guqin (a traditional zither), documenting the vibrant atmosphere of Huimin Street through short videos, and immersing in the allure of Qinqiang Opera, a local Chinese theatrical art.
Alongside her studies, she volunteered in educational initiatives across Shaanxi province, including teaching and research programs in Shangluo and Ankang. Reflecting on her journey, she said Xi'an gifted her an extraordinary chapter in her life, and she has grown to love this place deeply. Upon returning home, she plans to introduce Xi'an to more Russians, bridging cultures through her lived experiences.
