XJTU receives 14 awards at the 8th "Huawei Cup" China Postgraduate IC Innovation Competition.

The final of the 8th "Huawei Cup" China Postgraduate IC Innovation Competition recently concluded at the Suzhou campus of Nanjing University. A total of 1,483 teams from 206 universities across the country competed in the event.

Xi'an Jiaotong University's (XJTU) teams performed outstandingly in the competition, winning a total of 14 awards, including one first prize for teams, three second prizes for teams, and 10 third prizes for teams. In addition, they also won two first prizes and three second prizes for enterprise-sponsored topics.

XJTU won the Excellent Organizing University award, while Professor Gui Xiaoyan from the School of Microelectronics won the Excellent Instructor Award.

The "Xinping Qihe" team, which won the first prize for XJTU, comes from the School of Microelectronics. The team members were Wang Kanan, He Yukun, and Sun Huanfa, and the instructor was Gui Xiaoyan.

Their work, titled Low-Latency 200Gb/s Heterogeneous Interconnect Transceiver Chip for Pluggable Optical Modules, proposes a heterogeneously integrated 200G SerDes transceiver for the applications of pluggable optical modules which require ultra-high speed, low latency, and low power consumption. It represents the first complete academic solution for a single-channel 200G SerDes transceiver.

The 200Gb/s analog MUX/DEMUX adopts a 130nm SiGe BiCMOS process, while the 100Gb/s mixed-signal transceiver adopts a 28nm CMOS process. The 200G transceiver is used for re-timing pluggable optics, thereby achieving 200G performance at the optical end, while not being affected by the large insertion loss of the telecom channel. As a result, it has the potential to greatly reduce the latency under similar energy efficiency compared with the ODSP solution.
