The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced the results of the 2025 academicians election on Nov 21. Professor Su Guanghui from the School of Energy and Power Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) was elected as an academician of the CAE.

According to incomplete statistics, three XJTU alumni – Hu Dewen, Lu Junyong, and Wang Jue – were elected as academicians of CAS, and Li Erping was elected as a foreign academician of CAE.

Su Guanghui

Su Guanghui has long been engaged in research on nuclear reactor safety and the design of advanced nuclear power systems.

To address the needs of China's nuclear energy safety development, he independently developed thermal-hydraulic safety analysis technology for cross-dimensional coupling of "unit-equipment-system" in nuclear power, full-sequence process prediction and analysis software, and technologies for the prevention and mitigation of severe nuclear reactor accidents.

He also spearheaded the construction of a large-scale, internationally leading comprehensive performance testing facility for sodium-water steam generators.

CAS Academician Hu Dewen

Hu Dewen studied automatic control at XJTU from 1979 to 1983, earning his bachelor's degree. He continued his studies in automatic control at XJTU from 1983 to 1986, where he obtained a master's degree. He is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor at the National University of Defense Technology.

CAS Academician Lu Junyong

Lu Junyong studied electrical engineering at XJTU from 2001 to 2004, where he obtained a master's degree. He is currently a researcher at the Naval University of Engineering.

CAS Academician Wang Jue

Wang Jue studied turbomachinery at XJTU from 1978 to 1982, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He currently works at the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology.

CAE Foreign Academician Li Erping

Li Erping studied electrical apparatus at XJTU from 1983 to 1986, where he obtained a master's degree. He is currently a Qiushi distinguished professor, vice-dean for the Faculty of Information Technology, and a professor at the College of Information Science & Electronic Engineering at Zhejiang University.
