The 2025 International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS) commenced on July 13 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. During the event, the Frontiers of Science award was presented to honor groundbreaking papers published internationally in fundamental scientific research over the past decade.

Two professors from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) were among the recipients: Professor Xi Ping from the School of Mathematics and Statistics, who was recognized for his paper When Kloosterman sums meet Hecke eigenvalues, published in Inventiones Mathematicae; and Professor Zeng Jinshan from the School of Management, who received the award for his paper Global Convergence of ADMM in Nonconvex and Nonsmooth Optimization, co-authored with Doctor Wang Yu and Professor Yin Wotao, which appeared in the Journal of Scientific Computing in 2019.

Professor Xi (L2) receives the Frontiers of Science award at the 2025 ICBS.

Xi is a professor, doctoral supervisor, and leading scholar of XJTU, specializing in number theory, particularly the analytic theory of algebraic trace functions, prime distribution, sieve methods, and automorphic forms.

His research has been published in top-tier journals including Inventiones Mathematicae, Compositio Mathematica, Algebra & Number Theory, and IMRN. Honored with the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2020, he added the 2025 Frontiers of Science award to his accolades. He also serves as an executive council member of the Chinese Mathematical Society and sits on the editorial board of Frontiers of Mathematics.
