Professor Tim Jones, vice-chancellor of the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom, recently led a delegation on an exchange visit to Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU). Zhang Liqun, president of XJTU and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, met with the delegation at iHarbour.

Zhang remarked that the University of Liverpool is a global leader in higher education innovation and one of XJTU's most trusted strategic partners. Through their exemplary Sino-foreign cooperative institution, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), the two universities have achieved remarkable successes in interdisciplinary education, international talent development, and scientific innovation.

Facing global transformations and challenges in higher education, both universities will deepen collaboration in frontier fields such as artificial intelligence, low-carbon technology, and healthy aging to develop solutions for global issues like climate change and sustainable development.

Jones praised the University of Liverpool's nearly 20-year collaboration with XJTU, describing XJTLU as one of the world's most successful Sino-foreign cooperative universities. Against the backdrop of global challenges, including technological disruption, population aging, and climate change, he proposed strengthening cooperation in scientific innovation and educational reform to pioneer new pathways for higher education development.

Both sides discussed talent cultivation, scientific research, and XJTLU's future development, reaching significant agreements across multiple areas. They concurred that their solid collaborative foundation and fruitful achievements provide strong momentum for broader, higher-quality cooperation. The universities will continue to maintain close coordination to elevate their partnership to new levels and expand its scope.
